In this course we will explore how to apply the knowledge you have in a musical situation to create a story. We will use a simply melody to mix up chord voicings to see the benefits of using simple to complex chords.

Block Chords, we will adapt this popular Jazz technique used to harmonize a melody (and/or solo with) for tapping by harmonizing a note, top to bottom with 3 notes. This will still maintain the chord characteristics that your ear comes to expect from this type of playing. Let’s get to playing some lines rich and harmony and surprisingly doable!

We will start with a somewhat simple D minor arpeggio, and expand on that simply by moving which fret the index finger taps, throwing a repeated note., and using scale motion to create rich lines. Also included is a good exercise that uses repeated notes to transfer a simple arpeggio.

Chaining chords together to play lead or to comp is often difficult to do on a tapping instrument. We will look at efficient fingerings and put together the ability to play and navigate the fingerboard.
